How to choose glasses for your face shape

The right frame shape is mostly about contrast. Angular frames soften a round face; rounder frames soften an angular one.

It is a guideline, not a rule. Try on what you like — but if you want a starting point, this is it.

Round face

A round face is about as wide as it is long, with soft cheeks and a rounded chin. Angular frames add definition.

Look at Square, Rectangle and Cat Eye shapes. Avoid small round frames, which echo the face rather than balance it.

A square face has a strong jaw and a broad forehead, with the width and length roughly equal. Curves soften the angles.

Round, Oval and Aviator shapes work well. Thinner rims tend to look lighter than heavy, boxy ones.

The one thing to watch is size: keep the frame about as wide as the widest part of your face.

Heart-shaped face

A heart-shaped face is widest at the forehead and narrows to the chin. Frames that add width lower down bring things into balance.
